Calibrated Blower-Door Testing

What is Blower-Door Testing?

A calibrated blower door test will provide a measurement of air flow (or air-tightness). If it's too tight the air will be stagnant and can be unhealthy. If it's too open you could be wasting a lot of energy to heat and cool the building.

  • Required in Florida Building Code 402.4.1.2: Required for all new residential construction in Florida, including multifamily that is 3 stories or less.
  • 7ACH50: To pass the Blower Door Test, the home must have 7 air changes per hour (7ACH50) or less in Zones 1 and 2.
  • Mechanical Ventilation is required if a home has less than 3 air changes an hour.
  • 3ACH50: Less than 3 air changes per hour in zones 1 and 2 means the home could have elevated humidity and mold problems. (3ACH50 is acceptable for Zones 3 - 8.)
  • Test is performed when the building is complete, has power, weather stripping is installed, and there are no holes in the walls.
  • Testing takes approximately 30 minutes after set up is complete. Results are available immediately.

FLORIDA BUILDING CODE

New residential construction in Florida must pass a Blower Door test to meet energy efficiency codes (Florida Building Code Section 402.4.1.2).
